Description

Mississippi State University’s High‑Performance Computing Collaboratory is seeking a turnkey, new high‑performance computing solution consisting of both GPU‑accelerated and CPU‑only racks. The contract requires delivery, installation, configuration, and full 3‑year manufacturer warranties with next‑business‑day service. All hardware must run Rocky 9.x Linux and include perpetual software licenses for management tools. The solicitation specifies detailed quantities for racks, power infrastructure, networking, cabling, and compute nodes, and mandates that the CPU model used in the GPU rack be identical to that in the CPU rack. • Provide one 52U GPU rack with 8 GPU‑accelerated nodes (each with 4 HBM3e GPUs, 768 GB RAM, 1.6 TB NVMe, dual 25 GbE + 400 GbE IB) plus full power, cooling, and networking infrastructure. • Provide one 50U CPU rack with 64 CPU‑only nodes (same CPU spec as GPU nodes) plus matching power, cooling, and networking infrastructure. • Include all required PDUs, TOR switches, InfiniBand NDR switches, optics, fiber and copper cabling, and a complete installation, configuration, and warranty package (3 years, 8×5 for GPU rack, 5×8 for CPU rack). • Vendors must be authorized resellers, supply perpetual management‑software licenses at no extra cost, and be able to furnish up to three references for similar large‑scale HPC deployments.

Budget estimate

$12,000,000 – $25,000,000

The scope includes eight GPU‑accelerated nodes, sixty‑four CPU nodes, two full racks, high‑end networking (48×25 GbE + 2×100 GbE + 64×400 GbE InfiniBand), power and cooling infrastructure, and a 3‑year warranty with next‑business‑day service. Comparable university HPC procurements run from roughly $10 million for a modest configuration up to $30 million for a fully populated, top‑tier system. Factoring in the extensive networking, liquid‑cooling, and warranty commitments, a reasonable estimate is $12 M–$25 M.
