The objective of this project is to investigate the current distribution and abundance of the Endangered Humpback Chub in the newly formed 15-mile Colorado River reach below Pearce Ferry Rapid to the Lake Mead inflow within Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The project aims to determine if the Humpback Chub inhabiting this area constitutes a new aggregation of Humpback Chub separate from those upstream. The project will involve field sampling, data collection, and collaborative publications. The recipient will be responsible for carrying out the statement of work, leading field sampling and data collection, and providing annual reports. The National Park Service will provide substantial involvement, including technical review and assistance with reporting and public outreach.
Key aspects of the project include:
• The project will be conducted over a period of three years, with the first year funded at $11,887.00 and future years funded through modifications.
• The recipient will conduct three data-collecting trips to the study area, one per year, using standardized Colorado River fisheries methods.
• The recipient will provide copies of data collected, data summaries, reports, and other documentation to the National Park Service.
• The project will involve collaboration between the National Park Service and the Arizona Department of Game and Fish.
