C-5 Honeycomb Contract Strategy

The United States Air Force is seeking qualified sources for the manufacture of adhesively bonded honeycomb panels for the C-5 Galaxy aircraft. The panels are used to provide aerodynamic contours and structural integrity to the airframe. The qualification process involves submitting documentation, including company capabilities, equipment, and quality plans, as well as passing a series of tests and inspections. The goal of the qualification process is to ensure that the selected sources can produce high-quality panels that meet the Air Force's requirements. Some key aspects of the job include: * Manufacturing bonded panels requires strict control in facility contamination levels, building temperature/humidity, tracking adhesive life, autoclave operation, and bond line surface preparations. * The lay-up room must be maintained under a slight, positive air pressure differential at all times, with a minimum of five air changes per hour. * The temperature and relative humidity in the lay-up room must be monitored and recorded at least twice daily. * The selected sources will be required to demonstrate their ability to manufacture aerospace bonded honeycomb panels that are currently in use on commercial or military aircraft.
