Goat Grazing for Fuels Maintenance (Edgewood County Park)

The County of San Mateo is seeking bids for goat grazing services to maintain fuel breaks at Edgewood County Park. The goal of the project is to remove understory herbaceous and shrub vegetation and manage invasive species using a goat herd. The project will serve as a pilot to potentially expand grazing to other areas of the park for fuel reduction maintenance, invasive species management, and ecosystem restoration. The contractor will be responsible for furnishing all labor, materials, parts, and equipment necessary to provide targeted grazing services. • The project area is approximately 4 acres and extends from Sylvan Trail to the park boundary behind the adjacent neighborhood. • The contractor must be familiar with the project site and coordinate with Parks staff for access, staging, herder needs, and trail closures. • The contractor must provide and install temporary electric fencing to securely enclose the animals and restrict them to the grazing areas only. • The contractor must provide and install electric fence signs at frequent intervals on the fencing. • The contractor must provide, install, and fill temporary watering infrastructure using on-site water.
