Description

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) are seeking academia and industry participation in a S&T Industry Day focused on advanced weapon power sources and battery technologies. The Industry Day will be held on 24-26 March 2026, at the Doolittle Institute in Niceville, FL, and will be hosted up to SECRET level. The government aims to identify promising technologies that can enhance system performance through improved electrical power capabilities. The technical focus areas include high-energy density batteries, high-power density batteries, safe and reliable battery technologies, advanced power management systems, extreme environment batteries, long shelf-life batteries, alternative power sources, and test and evaluation. • High-Energy Density Batteries: Technologies that significantly increase energy storage capacity to increase range and time-on-station for future platforms and air-launched munitions. • High-Power Density Batteries: Technologies that optimize pulsed and continuous power output to meet or exceed weapon system demands. • Safe and Reliable Battery Technologies: Mature domestic manufacturing processes to promote early failure detection, thermal runaway mitigation/containment, and development of DAF-specific, criteria-based safety certification standards. • Advanced Power Management Systems: Innovative systems for efficient power distribution, regulation, and thermal management within weapon systems. • Extreme Environment Batteries: Development of batteries and technologies suited for military needs not met by commercial markets. • Long Shelf-Life Batteries: Technologies to increase the shelf life of batteries for weapons. • Alternative Power Sources: Novel power generation or storage methods beyond conventional batteries. • Test and Evaluation: Develop Modeling and Simulation (M&S) tools to reduce physical testing costs and accelerate acquisition cycle times.

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $1,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as it is a Request for Information and not a solicitation for a contract. However, based on the technical focus areas and the government's interest in identifying promising technologies, it is possible that the budget could be in the range of $100,000 to $1,000,000 or more, depending on the scope and complexity of the project. The budget could be influenced by factors such as the number of participants, the level of innovation and maturity of the technologies presented, and the potential for future contracts or partnerships.
