Description

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is seeking research projects to assess and evaluate emerging health conditions relevant to the World Trade Center Health Program. The program aims to support research on the potential causal relationship between 9/11 exposures and specific emerging health conditions. The research should consider health equity initiatives in design and focus on vulnerable groups of persons, such as minorities, women, children, and other potentially disadvantaged groups. Examples of emerging health conditions include ischemic heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, dementia, Parkinson disease, peripheral neuropathy, sensorineural hearing loss, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and systemic lupus erythematosus. The research agenda, publication library, and other resources can be found on the WTC Health Program Research webpage. • The WTC Health Program supports research projects that address physical and mental health conditions related to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. • The program aims to increase opportunities for research on emerging conditions identified by WTC Health Program surveillance and research activities. • Interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaborations are essential to advance WTC Health Program efforts. • The research should consider health equity initiatives in design, where possible. • Opportunities for future health effects research involving vulnerable groups of persons are of special interest.
