Description

The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) is seeking proposals for the BIOmolecular Grammar for protein Aggregation Modulation and Intervention (BIOGAMI) program. The goal of the program is to develop a comprehensive and reusable computational and experimental platform for disordered proteins across multiple diseases. The program aims to transform therapeutic approaches to protein dysfunction in disease by controlling protein folding rather than treating symptoms of malfunctioning proteins. Proposers must propose a research program for both Technical Areas (TAs): TA1, which focuses on establishing the molecular grammar of intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs), and TA2, which aims to modulate IDPs to detect and control protein folding. The program consists of two phases, each lasting 24 months. The first phase will focus on establishing a foundational model of IDP dynamics, structural changes, and aggregation, while the second phase will translate the results from the first phase into demonstration that molecules targeting dynamic intermediate states of IDPs can be effective as preventative therapies and as early sensors of protein dysfunction. Some key points about this opportunity include: • The program has two technical areas: TA1, which focuses on establishing the molecular grammar of IDRs, and TA2, which aims to modulate IDPs to detect and control protein folding. • The program consists of two phases, each lasting 24 months. • Proposers must propose a research program for both technical areas. • The program aims to develop a comprehensive and reusable computational and experimental platform for disordered proteins across multiple diseases. • The program seeks to transform therapeutic approaches to protein dysfunction in disease by controlling protein folding rather than treating symptoms of malfunctioning proteins.

Budget estimate

$5,000,000 – $20,000,000

Given the complexity and scope of the BIOGAMI program, it is difficult to estimate the exact budget amount. However, considering the program's goals and the fact that it is funded by the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), we can make an educated guess. The program aims to develop a comprehensive and reusable computational and experimental platform for disordered proteins across multiple diseases, which could lead to significant advancements in the field of biotechnology and medicine. The program's budget is not explicitly stated, but ARPA-H's funding for similar programs in the past has ranged from $1 million to $10 million per year. Assuming the BIOGAMI program will receive similar funding, we can estimate the budget amount to be around $5 million to $20 million over the course of the 48-month program. However, this is a rough estimate and the actual budget amount may be higher or lower, depending on various factors such as the number of awardees, the scope of work, and the program's progress.
