Description

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking applications for the establishment of facilities at minority-serving institutions (MSIs) and Institutional Development Award (IDeA)-eligible institutions for scaled production and distribution of brain cell type-specific access and manipulation reagents. The reagents will be initially developed in pilot resource projects for brain cell type-specific access and manipulation across vertebrate species from the BRAIN Initiative Armamentarium project. Awardees under this NOFO will work with the other Armamentarium awardees to manufacture and distribute the resources for use throughout the neuroscience community. The types of reagents to be produced and distributed could include but are not limited to viral vectors, nucleic acid constructs, and nanoparticles designed for selective access to and manipulation of brain cell types. • The reagents will enable neuroscientists to probe circuit function with high precision in experimental animals and ex vivo human tissue and cells. • Facilities are needed to contribute to the production and distribution of BRAIN Initiative Armamentarium project reagents broadly to neuroscience users. • The NIH is seeking applications from eligible institutions to support the establishment of these facilities. • The award will be made as a cooperative agreement, and the expected application count is 100. • The application size is expected to be 0, and the electronic submission is required. • The competition title is "Use for due dates on or after January 25, 2025". • The opening date is January 14, 2025, and the closing date is June 15, 2027.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $5,000,000

The budget for this grant is not explicitly stated, but based on the scope of the project, which involves the establishment of facilities for the production and distribution of reagents for neuroscience research, the award amount could range from $500,000 to $5,000,000. This estimate is based on the expected application count of 100 and the fact that the award will be made as a cooperative agreement. The actual budget will depend on the specific proposals submitted and the review process. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the complexity of the project, the qualifications of the applicants, and the availability of funds.
