The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is providing funding to States and U.S. Territories to support the development of Fiscal Year 2027 Commercial Vehicle Safety Plans. The goal of the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) is to reduce the number and severity of crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving commercial motor vehicles. The funding will be used to support a variety of activities, including driver and vehicle inspections, traffic enforcement, and new entrant safety audits. The plans should include measures to ensure effective, purposeful, and quality driver/vehicle inspections, as well as strategies to address driver behavior and reduce crashes in high-crash corridors.
Some key areas of focus for the plans include:
• Reducing fatal CMV crashes
• Improving work zone safety
• Combating human trafficking
• Enhancing enforcement of out-of-service orders
• Improving passenger carrier safety
• Ensuring accurate and complete documentation of inspection-related information
• Identifying and placing out of operation 100% of OOS carriers with an Imminent Hazard or Unsatisfactory/Unfit order
