Description

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is seeking a qualified contractor to design, demolish, and construct a new above‑ground oil‑water separator system at its Transportation Building in Providence. The scope includes removal of two existing underground separators, installation of a 2,500‑gallon OWS with pumps, control panels, alarms, a new deep‑sump basin, associated concrete work, piping, electrical power and control wiring, and protective site‑access features, followed by commissioning, testing, and one‑year warranty documentation. • Demolition of two underground oil‑water separators and related underground piping. • Construction of a new above‑ground separator (2,500 gal, 100 gpm) with redundant diaphragm pumps, control panel (NEMA 4) and alarm system. • Complete civil works: concrete slabs, footings, a 1,500‑gal deep‑sump basin, back‑fill, compaction, and installation of protective bollards. • Mechanical‑electrical‑plumbing integration: new 8″ inlet, 3″ suction hose, compressed‑air line, valve assemblies, conduit, and wiring per NEC‑2023. • Commissioning, training, as‑built drawings, and a one‑year workmanship warranty.

Budget estimate

$600,000 – $1,200,000

No contract value is disclosed, but based on typical costs for demolition, concrete foundations, a 2,500‑gal oil‑water separator, pump installation, electrical/mechanical integration, and a one‑year warranty, the total contract is likely in the mid‑six‑figure range. Assuming a mid‑size civil‑mechanical scope, a reasonable estimate would be between $600,000 and $1,200,000. Factors influencing the range include equipment pricing, site conditions, labor rates (prevailing‑wage requirements), and any unforeseen subsurface conditions.
