Description

City of Mobile is soliciting a vendor to provide 24/7 transportation of deceased individuals for the Police Department. Bidders may use either a Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance or a dedicated mortuary van/hearse (no lights or siren). The contract may be awarded on an item‑by‑item basis, allowing the City to split work between multiple vendors if desired. Vendors must be able to respond within 24 hours to any call, maintain personnel around the clock, and comply with all applicable federal, state, county and city regulations. • Provide dignified pick‑up and transport of deceased bodies on a 24/7 basis. • Offer either an ambulance (BLS) or a mortuary van/hearse; mixed use allowed under item‑basis award. • Submit sealed bids by 12:01 p.m. on February 20, 2026; no electronic submissions accepted. • Must meet all regulatory requirements and maintain appropriate attire and equipment for handling remains.

Budget estimate

$20,000 – $100,000

Because the solicitation does not disclose a budget, we estimate based on typical per‑transport fees for dignified body transport (roughly $200‑$500 per case). Assuming the City moves 100–200 bodies annually, total contract value could range from $20,000 to $100,000 per year. Larger volumes or premium vehicle use (mortuary van) could push the high end higher.
