Deposition of electroless nickel onto SuperHERO mandrels

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is seeking a contractor to perform the deposition of electroless nickel onto SuperHERO mandrels. The contractor shall coat 6 mandrel pieces and 8 coupons using an electroless nickel process, and perform deposit hardness testing and post heat treatment. The work will be performed at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). The key requirements of the project include: • Solvent preclean and alkaline soak clean of the mandrels and coupons • Etch and double zincate coating • Electroless nickel strike and final optical grade electroless nickel deposit • Uniform thickness of 0.008 +0.003/-.000 inches onto the mandrels and coupons • Post heat treatment for age hardened aluminum alloys • Deposit hardness testing and reporting of hardness values
