The National Park Service is soliciting estimates for the design and construction of a scaffold system to allow full access to the approximately 100 ft tall/6800 SF stone obelisk at the Chalmette Monument in New Orleans, LA. The scaffold system should provide safe work platforms for masonry repairs and should be erected on all four sides of the monument. The contractor will be responsible for designing, erecting, assembling, and disassembling the scaffold system, as well as providing all necessary labor, materials, and equipment.
Some key requirements for the scaffold system include:
• A designated hoisting bay to support a ½ - 1 ton electric hoist on a beam roller
• Decking adjacent to the hoist bay that can support up to 1000lbs
• Drilling or attaching the scaffold to the stone surface is not permitted
• The scaffold should be erected to allow workers to reach all surfaces of the stone surface and allow for hand cleaning and masonry repointing
• The scaffold should include at least one staircase for entry and have debris netting installed on all vertical sections
• Each scaffolding level should be fully planked and outfitted with guard rails and toe boards to comply with OSHA safety standards
