The National Park Service intends to award a single-source justified cooperative agreement to Colorado State University for a project studying the interactions among vegetation and fluvial geomorphic processes. The project aims to refine best management practices for sustaining a healthy riparian corridor along the Rio Grande while ensuring a positive and safe visitor experience. The project will involve analyzing datasets, assessing the effectiveness of past riparian plant control, and determining the effectiveness of vegetation eradication efforts.
• The project will utilize science to identify best practices to manage and maintain a popular park and fishery.
• The project will assist in the creation, promotion, facilitation, and improvement of the public's understanding, access to, and use of natural, cultural, and recreational resources of Big Bend National Park and the Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River.
• The project will provide new knowledge to the scientific community, state agencies, visitors, and researchers external to the National Park Service.
• The project will ensure the public has access to recreational opportunities involving birdwatching, fishing, and boating.
