Sergeant Alex R. Jimenz New York State Military Immigrant Family Program

The New York State Department of State, through the NYS Office for New Americans (ONA), is entering into a contract with the Volunteer Lawyers Project of Central New York (VLPCNY) to provide comprehensive legal services for eligible military personnel, veterans, and their families through the Staff Sergeant Alex R. Jimenez NYS Military Immigrant Family Legacy Program. Through this initiative, a senior immigration attorney will be provided to empower veterans and military personnel with knowledge of their legal protections. Additionally, VLPCNY will manage ONA immigration hotline referrals, facilitate access to ONA Opportunity Centers for citizenship and permanent resident application assistance, represent clients in U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services interviews and court hearings, and assist with securing document replacement and fee waivers. Finally, the project will compile annual reports for ONA and the Commissioner of Veterans Services and train ONA legal providers on specialized immigration cases for veterans, military personnel, and military families.
