Description

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is seeking a single, fully integrated Superconducting Nanowire Single‑Photon Detection (SNSPD) system to support advanced research in laser detection, free‑space optical communications, ISR, and remote sensing. The system must provide high‑efficiency photon counting across 700‑2100 nm, sub‑100 ps timing jitter, low dark‑count rates, and include a closed‑cycle cryogenic cooler, readout electronics, and control software. Delivery is required to AFRL/RYMM at Wright‑Patterson AFB, OH, with a 28‑week “after receipt of order” schedule. This is a 100 % small‑business set‑aside RFQ; the award will be based on lowest price technically acceptable. • Deliver one turnkey SNSPD system with ancillary accessories (cables, cryogenic components, software). • Performance: ≥80 % PDE (NIR), ≤100 ps jitter, ≤1,000 cps dark count, ≤300 ns recovery. • Must include closed‑cycle cryocooler, fiber‑coupled inputs, multi‑channel detection, and full integration for immediate lab use. • Delivery location: AFRL/RYMM, 3109 Hobson Way, Building 622, Wright‑Patterson AFB, OH 45433‑5504. • Quote due 11 Sep 2026 3:00 PM ET; submission by email to the listed Contract Specialist.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $2,000,000

No contract value is disclosed in the solicitation. Similar high‑performance SNSPD research platforms typically range from half a million to a few million dollars, depending on detector count, cryogenic system capacity, and software integration. Given the requirement for a turnkey system with multiple channels, cryocooler, and full integration, a reasonable estimate is $500,000 – $2,000,000. The final award will depend on the vendor’s pricing strategy and any optional accessories.
