The Precision Inertial Navigation & Positioning On an Integrated Tesseract (PINPOINT) program is a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) soliciting innovative proposals for the development of novel inertial sensors based on physics such as electromagnetically levitated proof masses, non-linear resonators, and high-velocity tethered microsystems. The program aims to overcome the decade-long performance plateau of micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) inertial measurement units (IMUs) by exploring revolutionary sensor architectures that operate in highly nonlinear regimes. Key areas of focus include:
• Development of novel inertial sensors with improved performance and reduced size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C)
• Tight co-design of physical sensor packages with advanced, real-time adaptive control systems
• Investigation of innovative approaches that enable revolutionary advances in science, devices, or systems
• Development of a comprehensive Design Guide and Prototype Design Kit (PDK) for the selected technology platform
Proposers are expected to submit abstracts and full proposals that align with the technical area described in the BAA, and that demonstrate a clear understanding of the program's objectives and requirements.
