Description

The United States Navy is seeking information from experienced ship designers and shipbuilders to assist in the refinement and alignment of the Notional Requirements for the Future Hospital Ship (T-AH(X)). The T-AH(X) will replace the USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) and USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) upon their retirements, acting as the only afloat Role 3 medical platforms in the fleet. The ship will be designed to receive patients from various afloat platforms and draft restricted pier-side locations and conduct stabilizing care. The Navy is seeking information on vessel cost estimates, major requirements cost drivers, perceived risk of the program, potential parent hulls, and backlog and construction planning. • The T-AH(X) will have a range of 10,000 nautical miles at sustained speed. • The ship will have an underway replenishment capability, including one fueling at sea station and one connected cargo replenishment receive station. • The ship will have an aviation capability, including two Level I, Class 1 operating spots capable of simultaneous operations for MV-22, CH-53K, and MH-60 aircraft. • The ship will have a medical treatment facility with 250 beds, including 50 ICU beds and 200 ACW beds. • The ship will have an internal patient flow system, including elevators, stair towers, and ramps. • The ship will have a patient reception system, including an integrated internal patient transit and handling system.

Budget estimate

$500,000,000 – $2,000,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as it is a request for information and not a solicitation for bids. However, the construction of a hospital ship is a large and complex project that will likely require significant funding. The Navy's budget for the T-AH(X) program is not specified in the document, but it is likely to be in the hundreds of millions or even billions of dollars. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the size and complexity of the ship, the materials and labor required for construction, and the Navy's budget for the program. A rough estimate for the construction of a hospital ship could be between $500 million and $2 billion.
