Description

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking bids for coal requirements for its Cogeneration Systems. The contract term is for three years with the option to extend for two additional one-year periods. The university reserves the right to make awards to a single bidder or multiple bidders. Bidders must submit certification from each mine operating company that all mines from which the bidder proposes to furnish coal comply with all federal and state regulations and permit requirements. Some key points to consider: • The university will evaluate bids based on the lowest price that meets the specifications, including any required verifications such as past performance, references, and financial documents. • The university reserves the right to reject any bid that does not meet the requirements or specifications. • The contract will include provisions for premium and penalty adjustments based on the heat content of the coal. • The university will only receive coal by rail in bottom dump cars. • Bidders are encouraged to visit the Cogeneration Facility to familiarize themselves with the procedures used by the university.

Budget estimate

$10,000,000 – $50,000,000

The budget for this contract is difficult to estimate without knowing the exact quantity of coal required and the price per ton. However, based on the information provided, it appears that the university is seeking a large quantity of coal, potentially in the range of thousands of tons per year. Assuming an average price of $60 per ton, the total budget for the three-year contract could be in the range of $10 million to $50 million, depending on the actual quantity of coal purchased.
