The goal of this funding opportunity is to enhance lawful decision-making and improve its accuracy and effectiveness through AI applications supporting crime prevention, public safety, and criminal justice systems. Research should explore both the benefits and limitations of AI, addressing potential risks and downstream impacts. Key aspects of this opportunity include: • The application process involves a two-stage process, beginning with the submission of a concept paper. • NIJ may request that the applicant submit a full proposal based on the merits of the concept paper. • Applicants should not submit a full proposal unless invited. • The estimated funding for this opportunity is $2,500,000, with an award ceiling of $2,500,000 and an award floor of $0. • The opportunity is open to various types of applicants, including state governments, local governments, non-profits, and private institutions of higher education.
