The Defense Health Agency (DHA) is announcing its intent to award a sole source contract to KBR Wyle Services, LLC for research and development services related to the study of mechanisms of radiofrequency interaction with biological systems. The study aims to characterize the biomedical effects of high-power microwave overexposure in Yucatan miniature swine using clinical evaluation protocols. The contract will continue the collaboration between KBR and the 59th Medical Wing, and KBR is considered the only responsible source that can provide the required services in a cost-effective and timely manner.
• The study will use whole-body overexposure to high-power microwaves at power levels modeled to have biologic significance.
• Animals will undergo comprehensive evaluation using neuro-imaging and neurologic evaluation protocols.
• The research team will build upon their experience providing research support on the Siemens and GE magnets located at the MRI Satellite building.
• The contract will be awarded under the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code 541715, Research and Development in the Physical, Engineering, and Life Sciences.
