Research to Evaluate Visitor Characteristics Across and Within Seasons at Joshua Tree National Park

The National Park Service intends to award a task agreement under a previously competed master cooperative agreement to fund a project titled "Research to Evaluate Visitor Characteristics Across and Within Seasons at Joshua Tree National Park." The project aims to gather information to support visitor use management and planning at Joshua Tree National Park. The objectives of the study include identifying and evaluating visitor demographics, preferences, and important experiences across multiple sites at the park, as well as evaluating visitor characteristics and preferences across multiple user groups and seasons. The project will help managers understand the visitor population and potential management actions to ensure high-quality experiences, protect resources, and provide continued access to the park. Some key aspects of the project include: • Identifying and evaluating visitor demographics, preferences, and important experiences across multiple sites at the park • Evaluating visitor characteristics and preferences across multiple user groups, including campers, day users, climbers, backpackers, and auto tourists • Conducting investigations across multiple seasons, including spring, summer, and fall • Identifying how and where visitors obtain information about the park and current conditions • Evaluating how and when visitors use social media to plan for, engage in, and communicate the park experience
