Description

This document is a technical wetland delineation report prepared for Seattle Public Utilities’ Water Planning and Project Management Division. It details field investigations, vegetation, soil, and hydrology assessments of the Cascade Dam and Perimeter Dike area at Lake Youngs, including classification, rating, and functional analysis of the identified wetland (Cascade Wetland). The study supports future maintenance and potential design contracts for the dam and dike. • Conducted three field visits in October–November 2018, covering ~16.6 acres. • Delineated one wetland (Cascade Wetland) and classified it as palustrine forested with scrub‑shrub and emergent components. • Performed soil hydric assessments, vegetation surveys, and hydrologic evaluations. • Applied Washington State Wetland Rating System (Category II) and identified moderate to high functional values for water quality, hydrology, and habitat. • Provides baseline data for future design, permitting, or mitigation work related to the Cascade Dam and perimeter dike.

Budget estimate

$50,000 – $150,000

The document does not specify a contract value. Typical wetland delineation and reporting projects of similar size (≈16 acres) in the Pacific Northwest range from $50,000 to $150,000, depending on site complexity, required permits, and deliverable depth. Factors influencing the estimate include the number of field days, laboratory analysis, GIS mapping, and the regulatory rating/reporting requirements.
