Description

The U.S. National Science Foundation's Facilities for Atmospheric Research and Education (FARE) Program supports state-of-the-art instruments and facilities for fundamental research in atmospheric sciences. The program includes the Lower Atmosphere Observing Facilities (LAOF) and the Community Instruments and Facilities (CIF). LAOF oversees a portfolio of multi-user national facilities for geosciences research, while CIF provides access to specialized instrumentation for field and laboratory-based studies. • The program enables geoscience research through specialized facilities, instrumentation, and field support services. • LAOF funding supports planning for scientific field programs and deployment of NSF-sponsored facilities. • CIF provides limited technician time, minor upgrades, and travel for outreach. • Proposals to the LAOF program are accepted by invitation only. • The program is open to any type of entity, subject to clarification in the text field entitled "Additional Information on Eligibility".

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $2,000,000

The budget for this grant is not explicitly specified, but based on the program's goals and the National Science Foundation's typical funding ranges, it is likely that the award amount will be in the range of $500,000 to $2 million. This estimate is influenced by the fact that the program supports research and education in atmospheric sciences, which can be a costly field. Additionally, the program's emphasis on state-of-the-art instruments and facilities suggests that the award amount may be higher than average.
