The Food and Agriculture Service Learning Program aims to increase knowledge of agricultural science and improve the nutritional health of children. The program supports two types of grants: FASLP-P projects, which focus on expanding existing farm-to-school initiatives, and FASLP-TA technical assistance grants, which provide support for FASLP projects. The program prioritizes projects that engage underserved rural and urban communities, facilitate connections between elementary schools and secondary schools with agricultural producers, and incorporate food loss and waste reduction efforts. Key activities may include expanding farm-to-school programs, providing technical support, developing promotional campaigns, and establishing community partnerships.
• Eligible applicants include state agricultural experiment stations, colleges and universities, and private organizations.
• Applicants must demonstrate experience in community food work, job training, and business development, as well as competency in implementing a food and agriculture service learning program.
• The program encourages applicants to incorporate food loss and waste reduction efforts into their projects.
• Awardees will be expected to participate in annual project director meetings and cooperate with the FASLP-TA awardee.
