Description

The Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program aims to establish and strengthen collaborations to support community coalitions working to prevent and reduce substance use among youth. The program has two goals: to establish and strengthen collaboration among communities, public and private non-profit agencies, and federal, state, local, and tribal governments, and to reduce substance use among youth and, over time, reduce substance use among adults. The program will fund applicants who have concluded the first five-year funding cycle or have experienced a lapse in funding. Key aspects of the program include: • Establishing and strengthening community collaborations to reduce and prevent youth substance use • Reducing substance use among youth and, over time, reducing substance use among adults • Addressing factors in a community that increase the risk of substance use and promoting factors that minimize the risk of substance use • Providing funding for community-based coalitions that address youth substance use and have previously received a DFC grant or have experienced a lapse in funding • Requiring applicants to meet statutory eligibility requirements, including having a principal mission statement of preventing youth substance use and addressing at least two substances • Requiring a 100 percent match from non-federal sources • Limiting federal funding requests to $125,000 per year • Requiring participation in the DFC national cross-site evaluation • Requiring submission of financial and performance reports, including an annual performance report, annual progress report, and federal financial report.
