Description

The St. Johns River Water Management District is seeking bids from experienced Contractors to provide and plant specified native submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) in designated areas of Lake Apopka and on the Lake Apopka North Shore. The project aims to re-establish and expand viable beds of native SAV, specifically Vallisneria americana and Potamogeton illinoensis, to improve water clarity, stabilize sediments, and provide habitat for fish, turtles, and benthic organisms. The Contractor will be responsible for providing all materials and services required to complete the SAV planting restoration project, including sourcing and planting native SAV, complying with permit requirements, and monitoring and reporting on the project's progress. • The project requires the planting of at least 5,000 Individual Plant Units per acre, with a minimum of 20% of the plant density per acre for each Ecotype. • The Contractor must use at least two approved planting methods, including the Single Bare Root Weight Method and one other method, such as Burritos or Peat Pots. • The Contractor must provide a Chain-of-Custody form and pre-planting inspections of each plant to ensure that no invasive or exotic species are being translocated to or planted in Lake Apopka or Lake Apopka North Shore. • The Contractor must comply with all permit requirements, including obtaining and complying with any necessary permits for harvesting, growing, transporting, and planting native SAV.

Budget estimate

$1,000,000 – $2,500,000

The budget for this project can be estimated based on the cost of materials, labor, and equipment required for the planting of native submerged aquatic vegetation. The District anticipates planting an estimated 20-50 acres annually, with a minimum of 5,000 Individual Plant Units per acre. Assuming an average cost of $10 per Individual Plant Unit, the total cost for the project could range from $1 million to $2.5 million per year, depending on the actual number of acres planted and the costs associated with each planting method.
