The National Park Service intends to award a single source justified cooperative agreement for the 2019 Yellowstone/Groundwork USA Urban Youth Engagement Project. The project aims to provide a diverse youth engagement initiative at Yellowstone National Park, where youth will learn about park resources and complete backlogged maintenance and other work projects. The recipient will be responsible for carrying out the statement of work, providing funding in-kind, and collaborating with Yellowstone staff. The project will promote greater public and private participation in natural and cultural resource preservation programs and activities. Key aspects of the project include:
* Providing meaningful life and work experience and training to diverse American youth
* Land and resource stewardship education and appreciation
* Technical, safety, and teambuilding opportunities
* Collaboration with Yellowstone staff to select work projects
* Provision of funding in-kind for partial salaries, uniforms, gear, and administrative costs
* Ensuring the Groundwork crew is prepared for working at Yellowstone and follows all safety, living, and work protocols.
Some of the specific work projects that may be undertaken include trail rerouting and erosion control, campground improvement, installation of bear-proof food storage boxes, exotic plant control, fence repair and construction, painting, staining, litter pick-up, backcountry campsite restoration, re-vegetation, and other resource rehab projects.
