The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is seeking a sole source contract with West Virginia University for black lung services. The contract aims to support coal miners by characterizing their perspectives on black lung screening and low-dose computed tomography for lung health monitoring. The contractor will generate foundational audience insights, develop and refine communication strategies, validate optimized messages in a real-world setting, and produce an implementation-ready toolkit for use by the CDC and its partners. The project duration is expected to be 3 years, with a base period and two option periods. The estimated procurement amount is $150,000.
Some key aspects of the project include:
• Characterizing coal miner perspectives on black lung screening and low-dose computed tomography
• Developing and refining communication strategies tailored to Appalachian coal worker populations
• Validating optimized messages in a real-world clinical or community outreach setting
• Producing an implementation-ready toolkit for use by the CDC and its partners
• Conducting mixed-methods research on beliefs, attitudes, trust, confidentiality concerns, and screening decision-making related to black lung screening and LDCT
