Medical Examiner Services

Isabella County is seeking proposals for Medical Examiner Services. The primary goal of the County is to ensure coverage of the comprehensive duties and responsibilities of the County's Medical Examiner through a contract for services. The successful contractor will demonstrate to County leadership through its proposal that it possesses the knowledge and competencies to successfully carry out the services required of the County's Medical Examiner in accordance with Michigan Law. Key responsibilities include: • Conducting inquiries into all deaths reported to the Isabella County Medical Examiner's Office • Performing forensic autopsies pursuant to the requirements of the State of Michigan • Signing all appropriate death certificates and review and authorize cremation permits in a timely manner • Providing necessary communications and being available to respond to the inquiries of County staff, Prosecuting Attorneys, and law enforcement agencies • Participating in court proceedings and attending meetings with County officials as requested The County desires a contractor that can provide all the services required of the County's Medical Examiner, including Medical Examiner Investigator (MEI) services. The contract term is tentatively scheduled to begin on January 1, 2026, and end on December 31, 2026, with the possibility of a multi-year contract.
