The National Park Service intends to award a single source justified cooperative agreement for the installation of a groundwater monitoring well near Sevenmile Canyon. The objective of this agreement is to drill and install a dual-completion nested groundwater monitoring well to determine the nature of groundwater flow and potential interconnection of the Entrada and Navajo aquifers upgradient from important springs in Sevenmile Canyon within Arches National Park. The recipient will be responsible for creating a detailed well drilling plan, scheduling the US Geological Survey Research Drilling Program to drill and complete the monitoring well, and overseeing well drilling, completion, and development. The National Park Service will provide financial assistance and review geologic and drilling data in real-time.
Some key aspects of the project include:
• Drilling and installation of a dual-completion nested groundwater monitoring well
• Determining the nature of groundwater flow and potential interconnection of the Entrada and Navajo aquifers
• Monitoring long-term groundwater levels in the Entrada and Navajo aquifers
• Determining hydrologic and geochemical properties of these aquifers
• Creating a report that includes drilling, sampling, water-level, and geochemical results
