Description

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Science Mission Directorate (SMD) released its annual omnibus Research Announcement (NRA), Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) – 2020. This opportunity is for the Heliophysics Technology and Instrument Development for Science program element. The program aims to support the development of technologies and instruments for heliophysics research. Awards will be made as grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, and inter- or intra-agency transfers, depending on the nature of the work proposed. • The typical period of performance for an award is three years, but some programs may allow up to five years and others specify shorter periods. • Organizations of every type, Government and private, for profit and not-for-profit, domestic and foreign (with some caveats), may submit proposals without restriction on teaming arrangements. • Tables listing the program elements and due dates, the full text of the ROSES-2020 solicitation, and the "Summary of Solicitation" as a stand-alone document, may all be found on the NSPIRES website.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $2,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is not explicitly stated in the document. However, based on the nature of the program and the typical funding amounts for NASA research grants, it is estimated that the budget could range from $500,000 to $2 million. This estimate is based on the fact that the program aims to support the development of technologies and instruments for heliophysics research, which can be a costly endeavor. Additionally, the program allows for awards to be made as grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, and inter- or intra-agency transfers, which can also impact the budget amount.
