Pell Bridge Rehabilitation

The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority is seeking a qualified contractor to rehabilitate the Claiborne Pell (Newport) Bridge, a critical interstate crossing. The scope includes replacement of compression link pins and nuts, proof‑load testing of suspender ropes, structural‑steel painting, hydro‑demolition, deck surface treatment, main‑cable work, and provision of a movable barrier system with associated rentals. The contract is awarded on a lump‑sum basis and includes options for a second jacking system and hot‑dip galvanizing of new steel components. • Replacement and fabrication of compression link components and related steel work. • Proof‑load testing of selected suspender ropes and comprehensive structural‑steel painting per Spec 825.9901. • Hydro‑demolition, deck grinding, and seal‑coat, plus main‑cable repairs and elastic wrapping. • Provision and rental of a movable barrier system, with removal and storage during a long‑term lane‑closure period (Dec 2026 – Apr 2027). • All work must comply with AISC Advanced Bridge Fabricator certification and detailed traffic‑control plans.
