The USAID/Haiti Resilient Environment Activity aims to increase community resilience by protecting and restoring ecosystem services in Haiti. The activity will focus on conserving watersheds and increasing the resilience of communities in targeted regions. USAID/Haiti is seeking comments and suggestions from local stakeholders and interested parties to incorporate new, innovative, proven, and/or promising solutions on how to conserve watersheds and increase community resilience. The activity will be implemented over a 5-year period and may include community forestry management, economic incentives, small-scale infrastructure, direct tree planting, payments for ecosystem services, and alternative livelihoods.
Some key aspects of the project include:
• Community-led forest management approaches
• Economic incentives for natural regeneration
• Small-scale infrastructure for soil retention
• Alternative livelihoods to reduce deforestation
• Coordination and collaboration with local governments and other donors
• Lessons learned from past watershed management activities
