Description

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is seeking information from potential vendors for the purchase of an upright fluorescence microscope with digital imaging and image analysis capabilities. The microscope will be used to support research on malaria parasite biology and gene regulation. The system must include an integrated digital camera and image acquisition software capable of capturing, processing, and analyzing fluorescence images. The microscope must also include objectives with minimum magnifications of 5x, 10x, 20x, 40x, and 100x oil immersion, and support DIC imaging at the required objective magnifications. Key features of the required system include: • Upright configuration • Mechanical stage and specimen holder • Focus drive with minimum 24 mm vertical focus travel • Multichannel fluorescence illumination • Fluorescence filter set and reflector turret • Microscope stand controls • Objectives with minimum magnifications of 5x, 10x, 20x, 40x, and 100x oil immersion • DIC optical capabilities • Monochrome camera with minimum resolution of 3.0 megapixels • Imaging software capable of multichannel fluorescence image acquisition, processing, measurement, and analysis The FDA is seeking capability statements from potential vendors, which should include company information, technical information, and pricing information.

Budget estimate

$50,000 – $200,000

The budget for this opportunity is not explicitly stated, but based on the complexity and technical requirements of the microscope system, it is likely to be in the range of $50,000 to $200,000. This estimate is based on the cost of similar microscope systems and the fact that the FDA is seeking a turn-key solution that includes all necessary hardware, software, and services. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the specific features and capabilities of the microscope system, the level of customization required, and the vendor's pricing strategy.
