Sources Sought Notice - Automated Vehicle Shuttle Demonstration in Washington D.C.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is conducting a market survey to identify potential sources for an anticipated contract for the demonstration of an automated vehicle shuttle in Washington D.C. The project aims to demonstrate and showcase state-of-the-art automated transit shuttle technology in a challenging and dynamic real-world roadway environment. The automated shuttle must comply with federal requirements, including Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and FHWA's Buy America regulation. The demonstration will take place over three months, with a total of 250 hours of demonstration, and will include two one-day showcase events. • The automated shuttle vehicle must be capable of operating safely and smoothly under normal operating conditions. • The contractor must propose a route for testing and demonstration of the AV shuttle that is suited to successful demonstration within the desired timeframe in DC. • The demonstration must include on-board staff that can monitor and take control if necessary. • The contractor must obtain necessary approval and permits from relevant agencies.
