The National Park Service intends to award a single source justified cooperative agreement to the American Conservation Experience for a landscape project to renew the grounds at Andersonville NHS. The project aims to improve the appearance of the Andersonville National Cemetery and the Andersonville National Historic Site Prison Stockade by landscaping and removing invasive vegetation. The project will be completed by two 8-person crews, consisting of a crew leader, assistant crew leader, and crew members, who will perform tasks such as grass trimming, restoration of sunken graves, and removal of invasive bamboo. The National Park Service will provide financial assistance, training, oversight, and mentoring to the recipient.
Some key aspects of the project include:
• Realigning and cleaning headstones in the National Cemetery
• Making landscape improvements in the Prison Stockade
• Landscaping the park's boundary
• Removing invasive bamboo from the Andersonville National Historic Site
• Restoring sunken gravesites and beautifying the grounds
• Providing training and oversight to participants
The project will enhance the visual enjoyment of visitors and guests, and will allow the National Park Service to partner with a youth organization to bring youth into the parks and enhance their knowledge of cultural landscapes.
