The National Park Service intends to award a single source justified cooperative agreement to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for a project to analyze forest condition and produce floristic guides. The project aims to provide managers at 14 national park units with information on the condition of their forest ecosystems and floral guides suitable for public use. The project has five objectives: obtain park input on data analysis and reports on forest condition, incorporate analysis and reports into an existing database, develop forest condition metrics, develop park-specific floristic guides, and engage students in condition assessments of forest ecosystems and floral communities. The project will be completed over a period of two years, from August 1, 2019, to July 31, 2021.
• The project will involve the development of customized floristic guides for two national park units.
• The project will involve the development of forest condition metrics for floristic quality assessment.
• The project will involve the incorporation of analysis and reports into an existing database.
• The project will involve the engagement of students in condition assessments of forest ecosystems and floral communities.
• The project will involve the development of a list of C-values for plant species encountered in national park units.
