Description

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) intends to award a sole source firm fixed price contract to Born Free USA Primate Sanctuary for the transfer of up to 162 nonhuman primates (NHPs) to their sanctuary. The contractor will be responsible for providing a safe, compliant, and humane long-term sanctuary for the NHPs, including veterinary oversight, chronic disease management, structured social group formation, behavioral rehabilitation, and comprehensive lifetime care. The contractor will also have sole custody and ownership of the animals once they are loaded onto transports at CDC's loading docks. • The contractor must be a GFAS-accredited sanctuary with demonstrated experience in the long-term care, housing, veterinary management, and social integration of macaques. • The contractor must have the capacity to accept all the CDC's macaques through a phased intake within CDC's required timeframe. • The contractor must provide a schedule that aligns with CDC's required transition timeline. • The contractor must have relevant experience transitioning animals from research environments into sanctuary housing, including behavioral assessment, social introduction, and ongoing monitoring.

Budget estimate

$2,400,000 – $64,000,000

The budget for this contract is not explicitly stated in the document. However, based on the scope of work and the fact that the contractor will be responsible for the lifetime care of up to 162 nonhuman primates, it is likely that the contract value will be substantial. The cost of caring for a single nonhuman primate can range from $10,000 to $20,000 per year, depending on factors such as the animal's age, health, and housing requirements. Therefore, the total cost of caring for 162 nonhuman primates for their lifetime could be in the range of $1.6 million to $3.2 million per year, depending on the length of their lifetime. Assuming an average lifetime of 15-20 years, the total contract value could be in the range of $24 million to $64 million.
