The United States Agency for International Development in Central Asia (USAID/CA) is exploring the landscape of actors with capacity and experience in local governance in Kazakhstan. This effort will inform planning for a potential upcoming four-year USAID Local Governance activity in Kazakhstan. The goal of the planned activity is to provide support for strengthening local governance, in which civil society more effectively represents citizen voices and engages the government, while sub-national government institutions are more effective in fulfilling their mandates and responding to citizen needs.
• The activity will focus on working with sub-national/local governments and civil society to help them identify priorities, better manage national and local resources, and mobilize citizens to work towards common objectives.
• The activity will create learning and knowledge sharing platforms for local leaders to share and discuss best practices and lessons learned with other leaders across the country.
• USAID/CA is interested in submissions from local non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, private sector organizations, research institutions, educational organizations, or other organizations with experience relevant to the planned Local Governance activity.
• Local organizations must be legally organized under the laws of Kazakhstan, have Kazakhstan as their principal place of business or operations, be majority owned by individuals who are citizens or lawful permanent residents of Kazakhstan, and be managed by a governing body, the majority of whom are citizens or lawful permanent residents of Kazakhstan.
