The National Park Service intends to award a single-source justified cooperative agreement to Utah State University for a herpetofaunal species inventory and assessment project at Dinosaur National Monument. The project aims to update and expand the herpetofaunal community presence and distribution data within the monument, focusing on a subset of active grazing allotments. The project will be informed by existing species collections and records, as well as current and past research on Uintah Basin herpetofauna distributions. The recipient will be responsible for carrying out the statement of work, adhering to federal, state, and local laws, and providing a draft and final summary report.
Some key aspects of the project include:
• Conducting herpetofaunal surveys and quantifying species presence, distribution, and activity patterns associated with select water sources in grazing allotments.
• Identifying threatened species and those that are sensitive to current management of water sources.
• Providing an opportunity for undergraduate and/or graduate students to gain valuable professional experience.
• Informing grazing and natural resource management decisions at Dinosaur National Monument.
