Pre-Employment Law Enforcement Background Investigation Services

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a vendor to provide comprehensive pre-employment law enforcement background investigation services for peace officer candidates. The selected vendor will be responsible for conducting thorough background investigations to ensure candidates meet all current and necessary California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) qualifications. The scope of work includes reviewing candidate files, conducting in-person interviews, determining omissions or discrepancies, and preparing background investigation reports. The target start date for the proposed services is July 1, 2026, and the agreement shall have a term of three years. • The vendor shall conduct background investigations utilizing a combination of in-person interviews, phone calls, email, and mail inquiries. • The vendor shall review assigned digital candidate files to verify the accuracy and completeness of the Personal History Statement (PHS) and other supporting documentation. • The vendor shall determine if any omissions, discrepancies, and/or inaccuracies exist with any other information provided by the candidate or developed in the course of the background investigation. • The vendor shall prepare and review all results of background investigation inquiries, including local agency checks, driving records, and criminal and other qualification record checks.
