Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is seeking information from sources that may be capable of providing a large sample stage cryostat. The cryostat should meet or exceed the following draft minimum specifications: self-contained compact optical cryostat with integrated optical breadboard, vacuum pump and all necessary accessories included, system must be able to be rolled by a single individual into and out of spectrometer location, water cooled compressor with helium lines longer than 12 M in order to be separated from experiment, and fully automated temperature control. Some key features of the cryostat include: • Cool down time: less than 5 hours to reach 5 K • Sample environment: cryogenic vacuum • Sample space: diameter greater than 70 mm • Sample exchange: easy access via removal of vacuum shroud • Ultra-low vibrations at cold plate: less than 7 nm • Temperature range: less than 4 K to greater than 300 K • Temperature stability: less than 20 mK • More than 30 electrical contacts into sample area required • Sample positioners with close loop piezo control of position for X and Y positioning of sample beneath objective • Incorporated low temperature objective with high magnification (50 X) apochromatic objective to operate within a low temperature environment (down to 4 K)

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $500,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate because the document does not provide a specific budget or payment amount. However, based on the complexity and specificity of the cryostat requirements, it is likely that the budget will be in the range of $100,000 to $500,000. This estimate is based on the assumption that the cryostat is a custom-built instrument that requires significant research and development, and that the budget will cover the costs of design, development, and testing.
