Description

The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking to license its electrochemical arsenic immobilization technology for sustainable cobalt production. The technology introduces an electrochemical method for extracting cobalt from sulfoarsenide minerals while simultaneously immobilizing arsenic as scorodite, a stable and low-solubility mineral form. The process enables cobalt production from arsenic-rich domestic sources by addressing both metal recovery and arsenic stabilization in a single system. Key advantages of this technology include integrated processing, lower input requirements, improved environmental management, reduced energy consumption, and scalable design. The technology is relevant to several critical sectors that rely on secure and sustainable supply chains for cobalt and other metals, including cobalt and critical mineral processing, battery supply chain, mining operations, environmental remediation, and defense and energy security. The laboratory is looking for companies interested in licensing and bringing this technology to market.
