Description

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is announcing a forecast to publish a funding opportunity announcement for the Integrative Neuroscience Initiative on Alcoholism (INIA) Consortia Research Resource. The purpose of this initiative is to renew the INIA and support two collaborative research consortia to study brain-body homeostatic dysregulation that promotes and perpetuates excessive alcohol drinking and related Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) phenotypes. The initiative will utilize the U24 activity code and will support two collaborating multisite consortia through cooperative agreement mechanisms. Key aspects of this opportunity include: • The initiative will focus on hypothesis-centered research on interactions between alcohol and other relevant causal influences. • Investigators will adapt advanced tools and technologies from the BRAIN Initiative, NIH Common Fund, and other sources to examine brain structure and function at multiple spatial and temporal scales. • A focus on standardization of neurofunctional measures and replication will be instituted across both consortia. • The initiative will support two collaborating multisite consortia, each comprised of administrative and resource cores, and U01s for individual research projects. • Applications are not being solicited at this time, but notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects.

Budget estimate

$200,000 – $700,000

The estimated funding for this opportunity is $700,000. This amount is likely to be the total funding available for the two collaborative research consortia. The actual budget for a single award may be lower, potentially in the range of $200,000 to $500,000 per year, depending on the scope and duration of the project. The budget may also vary based on the number of awards made and the specific requirements of the initiative.
