Description

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Science Mission Directorate (SMD) released its annual omnibus Research Announcement (NRA), Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) – 2023. This program element, A.59 Technology Development for Support of Wildland Fire Science, Management, and Disaster Mitigation, is one of the individual program elements within ROSES. The goal of this program element is to support the development of technologies for wildland fire science, management, and disaster mitigation. • The typical period of performance for an award is three years, but some programs may allow up to five years and others specify shorter periods. • Organizations of every type, Government and private, for profit and not-for-profit, domestic and foreign (with some caveats), may submit proposals without restriction on teaming arrangements. • Awards will be made as grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, and inter- or intra-agency transfers, depending on the nature of the work proposed, the proposing organization, and/or program requirements. • The ROSES-24 version of this program element is planned to overlap with this ROSES-23 version by a few weeks, allowing continuous submission of proposals across ROSES years.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $5,000,000

Given that the typical period of performance for an award is three years and the nature of the work involves technology development for wildland fire science, management, and disaster mitigation, it's reasonable to estimate that the budget could range from $500,000 to $5 million. This estimate considers the potential scope and complexity of the projects, as well as the funding levels typically associated with research and development initiatives in the science and technology sector.
