Description

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Science Mission Directorate (SMD) has released its annual omnibus Research Announcement (NRA), Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) – 2021. This program element, ROSES 2021: Solar System Observations, is one of the individual program elements within ROSES. The program aims to support basic and applied research and technology in space and Earth sciences. Proposals may be submitted at any time, pending certain eligibility timing issues related to resubmissions and duplicate proposal avoidance. Awards will be made as grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, and inter- or intra-agency transfers, depending on the nature of the work proposed. • Proposals may be submitted by organizations of every type, Government and private, for profit and not-for-profit, domestic and foreign. • The typical period of performance for an award is three years, but some programs may allow up to five years and others specify shorter periods. • Proposers must be affiliated with an institution at nspires.nasaprs.com/ and, in general, NASA provides funding only to US institutions. • Questions concerning general ROSES-2021 policies and procedures may be directed to Max Bernstein, Lead for Research, Science Mission Directorate, at [email protected].

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $5,000,000

The budget amount for this opportunity is not specified, but based on the nature of the work proposed and the typical period of performance for an award, it can be estimated that the budget range may be between $500,000 and $5 million. This estimate is influenced by the fact that most extramural research awards deriving from ROSES will be grants, and the typical period of performance for an award is three years. However, the actual budget amount may vary depending on the specific proposal, the proposing organization, and program requirements.
