Description

The National Park Service intends to award a cooperative agreement for the project "Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention" to the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies. The project aims to educate visitors about the risks of aquatic invasive species and to protect the Blue Mesa Reservoir from these species. The recipient will be responsible for advertising, interviewing, and hiring staff to support aquatic invasive species inspections, while the National Park Service will provide on-sight mentoring and guidance. The project will run from July 15, 2019, to September 30, 2021. • The project will focus on protecting the largest cold water fishery in Colorado from invasive species. • The recipient will subcontract with Colorado Parks and Wildlife to accomplish the work. • The National Park Service will provide daily guidance of AIS inspectors and participate in the training and education of staff. • The project will support the public purpose of educating both the student interns and the general public about the risks of aquatic invasive species.
