Description

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is issuing FY 2026 Continuum of Care (CoC) Competition and Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) grants. The program provides federal funding to eligible nonprofit, state, local, tribal, and public housing entities to re‑house individuals and families experiencing homelessness and to implement coordinated community approaches to prevent and end youth homelessness (ages 24 and under). Up to 7,000 awards are expected, with a total estimated funding envelope of $4.04 billion; individual award amounts range from $2,500 up to $25 million. Applications must be submitted electronically via e‑SNAPs by 8:00 p.m. ET on 30 September 2026. Cost‑sharing is required. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, state and local governments, Indian tribes, tribally designated housing entities, and public housing agencies. The award will be made after a scoring and tiered‑selection process; the estimated award date is 1 December 2026 and project start is anticipated 1 January 2027. • Federal grant (CFDA 14.267) for community‑development and youth‑homelessness services. • Open to a broad range of public‑sector and nonprofit entities nationwide. • Funding ceiling per award: $25 M; floor: $2,500. • Application deadline: 30 Sep 2026 (e‑SNAPs). • Required cost‑share and compliance with HUD’s CoC and YHDP program requirements. • Estimated total funding $4.04 B across ~7,000 projects. • Award announcement expected 1 Dec 2026; project implementation likely begins Jan 2027.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $5,000,000

The total FY 2026 funding envelope is $4.04 billion for roughly 7,000 awards, yielding an average award size of about $577,000. However, HUD sets a floor of $2,500 and a ceiling of $25 million per award, so actual budgets will vary widely based on project scope, geographic need, and tiered scoring. A typical community‑based CoC project can expect to receive between $500,000 and $5 million, while larger regional or multi‑jurisdictional initiatives could approach the $25 million ceiling. Factors influencing the final amount include the applicant’s cost‑share, the size of the homeless population served, and the project’s scoring on HUD’s performance metrics.
