Description

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is seeking information to identify potential partners and innovative applications for the Mass Spectrometer observing lunar operations (MSolo) instrument. The MSolo instrument is a modified commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) quadrupole mass spectrometer ruggedized for spaceflight, designed to identify and quantify volatiles in the lunar environment. • The MSolo instrument has demonstrated full functionality on the lunar surface during the IM-2/PRIME-1 mission. • The instrument measures gas species up to 100 m/z with unit mass resolution and features standardized interfaces for integration into landers or rovers. • NASA is looking for opportunities for rapid infusion into upcoming lunar missions and seeks to assess the breadth of technical solutions, operational concepts, and commercial models that could maximize the instrument's scientific and commercial value. • Respondents should include their proposed mission concept, technical integration information, operational strategy, and partnership and commercial models. • NASA may provide support under future reimbursable or collaborative agreements, including furnishing of MSolo units, technical and integration support, verification and validation, and operational collaboration.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $5,000,000

The budget amount for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as the document does not provide specific information on the potential contract value. However, considering the scope of the project, which involves the development and integration of a complex scientific instrument for lunar missions, the budget could potentially range from $500,000 to $5 million. This estimate is based on the assumption that the contract would cover the costs of instrument development, testing, and integration, as well as potential revenue from future lunar missions. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the complexity of the instrument, the scope of the mission, and the level of NASA's investment in the project.
